Boehner: Don't Forget the House
The Republican Party is looking for money and support this fall. That’s true not only for the presidential race, but also the congressional ones. Most believe that the GOP will maintain control of the House, but in an interview today on Fox News Speaker John Boehner says there is a one-in-three chance that his party will lose. That may seem overly pessimistic, but it’s just a reminder to voters and supporters that they’re needed this fall…
Now the Race Really Begins
It’s been a few weeks since I wrote anything about the presidential election, but there’s not all that much going on. There was a pointless discussion regarding working women, a comment by Democratic strategist Hilary Rosen that was intentionally misinterpreted and that she grudgingly had to apologize for. The controversy is addressed in the clip above, which is lifted from Diane Sawyer’s recent interview with Mitt and Ann Romney on ABC…
Obama on the War Path
The clip above shows President Barack Obama mocking Republicans for being too extreme to govern, let alone handle a budget. Obama went so far as saying that the Ryan plan makes Newt Gingrich’s Contract With America look like the New Deal. The attack comes on the heels of the House passing Congressman Paul Ryan’s budget proposal (which has no chance in the Senate), a hodgepodge of extreme rightwing ideas that would gut the federal government and reward the wealthy with more expensive tax cuts…
Catholics Against Health Care?
Take a look at the ad above, sponsored by Rick Santorum’s campaign. Is this really how the former Pennsylvania Senator expects to win the nomination? By giving room to whiny, selfish people, one of whom actually defines being Catholic as being against federally supported health care. Really? Does this person honestly believe that her fellow Catholics agree?…
Careful, That's a Hot Mike
Politicians frequently say the darndest things. Sometimes when they think that no one’s listening, as we’ve learned these past two weeks that featured several non-scripted moments, some amusing, some awkward.
The first example shows a clear lack of judgment. Mitt Romney recently called Russia America’s “number one geopolitical foe”, which isn’t very smart if you’re a candidate looking to become president. Portraying allies as enemies is rarely wise. But Russian President Dmitry Medvedev gives as good as he gets and told Romney to step out of the mid-1970s…
Gingrich is Romney's Security Blanket
As America busies itself discussing the tragic Trayvon Martin case, The Hunger Games and the Supreme Court taking on Obamacare, the presidential primary season struggles onward. Nothing has really changed. Former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney won Illinois and former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum Louisiana. Coming up next are primaries in Maryland, Washington D.C. and Wisconsin on April 3. The last one is open and polls show that Romney looks fairly certain to win…
Good vs. Bad: Clooney and Limbaugh
Two subjects that deserve a few quick comments. Rush Limbaugh has continued to hemorrhage advertisers after calling law student Sandra Fluke a “slut” for defending the government’s request to have contraceptives covered by the student health-insurance plan; they’re now counting 140. In the clip above, advertising veteran Goldie Taylor says that Limbaugh is in trouble because CNN, as an example, couldn’t survive losing 140 advertisers…
Mitt Romney, the Gasbag
Mitt Romney appeared on Fox News today to talk about gas. Americans are beginning to feel the pain at the pump. This is one of the subjects that bores me to tears. I don’t own a car, granted, so I never do care about gas prices or any other cost that comes with owning a car. But this is nevertheless a subject that deserves respect. Plenty of families all over America (and other countries) depend on their cars and any increase in gas prices is likely to make them feel hostile toward those in power…
The Kiss That Defines Santorum's Values
Last Friday saw former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum address a crowd in Arlington Heights, Illinois when two men interrupted the rally momentarily by kissing. They were soon ejected by guards as the crowds chanted “U-S-A”…

Romney Fighting for Delegates, Obama for an Audience
Super Tuesday is over and former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney stands as the bruised and battered winner. As expected, he failed to deliver a knockout as former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum won Tennessee and former Speaker Newt Gingrich Georgia. Romney needs 1,143 delegates to win the nomination and as of last Tuesday he has 341. That gives him a clear advantage, as Gingrich only has 112 delegates and Santorum 108. Romney is still likely to come out on top of this thing, but it’s hard to say that anyone really has the momentum…
A rant now and then on the state of politics in America and elsewhere. I watch too much cable news, I'm so sorry.
